Ladies Bike Apparel.
‘Women Cycling Clothing’ offers ladies bike apparel with a unique difference. Our bike apparel is professionally styled and tailored to flatter the female form.
It is also professionally designed by a new and talented Australian Designer, so you will see what’s not in the marketplace.
Hello, my name is Helen. I am actually a Registered Nurse with obviously way too much time on my hands. More importantly I’m a cyclist. What makes my clothing range different? It was created by a woman cyclist and a fashion designer. We have now created funky designs that look good yet have all the cycling functionality. We offer Ladies bike apparel, not just raglan sleeve jerseys.
For a long time, there was a lack of variety and style of clothing available to women in cycling. We all don’t want to look like a billboard and of the clothing available it lacked variety. Then there was the introduction of PINK in our Jerseys. I am always amused by how people think. I’m nearly tempted to produce a blue bike jersey with cars on them for the boys. I imagine it would be as popular as the Pink was with the girls.
Anyway, I decided in all my wisdom that I was going to manufacture some real designs. It was about then that my life took on a whole new meaning.
I am a firm believer that what we do and what we wear is a reflection of who we are – our clothing defines our style
I had a vision and I had a passion, cycling, and I didn’t want to look like everyone else. When I did race, there was more to me than just my bike. Thus I am a firm believer that what we do and what we wear is a reflection of who we are. Our clothing defines our style.
That’s how Women Cycling Clothing came about, designing ladies bike apparel with style, that stood out from the pack.
Women Cycling Clothing also defines me.
I believe in being kind to our planet, so Women Cycling Clothing is environmentally conscious. Anything produced under the name of DARK HORSE will be packaged in paper or biodegradable packaging. In fact, we are working on printing onto biodegradable bags made from corn starch. These are the most biodegradable bags on the market to date, and we intend to use them for packaging. We want to eliminate plastic where ever we can.
Promotional items & packaging will be of recycled paper or farmed trees and will be used sparingly to minimize the DARK HORSE footprint. Thus we don’t print Brand Tags.
Our unique ladies bike apparel is AUSTRALIAN MADE, OWNED and DESIGNED.Unfortunately due to our overheads to produce locally, we may be forced to go offshore. We do believe though that Dark Horse will still offer superior quality products through strict quality control. Something that Women Cycling Clothing can offer, is that good old fashioned service that was uniquely Australian.
I haven’t forgotten how hard it is to learn a new skill with little support – I can give you the tools to succeed
One last thing that defines me is supporting my fellow female riders. I haven’t forgotten how hard it is to learn a new skill with little support, or how easy it is to lose your confidence. For racing women, psychological hurdles can be just as debilitating as physical ones. I can’t change those events or your way of thinking, but I can be a support person and try to give you the tools to succeed. I intend doing that in a number of ways.
- I’ll start with Blogs using my Nursing Knowledge to educate riders occasionally of potential riding problems, how to identify them and how to avoid them. Id also like to cover cycling issues that we sometimes face such as avoiding bike theft for example. I want to create blogs with real matter, not just create a means of another way to style an add !
- Occasionally I will bring in outside professionals to do a Blog or offer advice. This will be aimed more at competitive riders, hopefully, to assist them with training ideas, nutrition and maybe preparation for a race.
- I will also be building up a library of videos eventually available for anyone who visits this site. This is more of a long time goal so please give me time.I have started with a video on “How to change a Tyre”. Maybe the next one should be “How to dismantle your bike for Air Travel or freight”, as once you get the cycling bug it becomes a lifestyle. You won’t go far without your bike.
- Last but not least, Race sponsorship and involvement. I do not sponsor any clubs at the moment although I have been involved with local clubs, but this will happen. Ultimately I would love to support a women’s series. I have also through networking, encouraged new women riders to enroll for the Cycling Australia course ‘She Rides‘ .This course was rolled out throughout Australia through bike shops offering qualified trainers at very competitive rates. It gives a great base knowledge for new riders. That’s a great place to start building your confidence.
To sum up who I am and what I represent.
My aim is to support women in cycling.
If you are a novice you need a reason to try, and a way to build confidence. For a new rider, something as simple as changing a Tyre can be a huge hurdle. Let’s face it, if you can’t change a Tyre how are you going to get home? It’s time we start building your confidence. Let’s see how far you can take this.
If you are a racing woman, I’d like to assist to make women’s racing an entity of it own. We need to let our women shine. Our male counterparts need to acknowledge our achievements. Do you watch tennis? I’m sure you don’t turn it off when the Williams sisters play! Why can’t cycling women take center stage during major events like our tennis stars did. We can do it too!
I believe there is a potential DARK HORSE in all of us.
Give Women Cycling Clothing a chance. There are so many more Dark Horses that need to shine.
